American Arium
Delivers Serial Wire
Debug with HS-1000S Trace Port Analyzer
New Emulator
Designed to Support ARM® CoreSight™ Technology
TUSTIN, CA, Jul. 26,
2007/Market Wire/ -- American
Arium, an industry leader in hardware-assisted development tools, today
announced the production release of the HS-1000S, the company’s newest
trace port analyzer for the ARM market. The emulator supports the latest
ARM® Cortex™ cores and features serial wire debug (SWD).
“Serial wire
debug is an ARM® CoreSight™ JTAG replacement that uses two wires instead
of the five required by JTAG debug. Our customers need SWD as various
ARM licensees are adopting the new technology. In response to our
customers, we now support it,” said Arium’s CEO Larry Traylor.
The HS-1000S
currently supports ARM Cortex™ R4 and M3 cores as well as ARM7™, ARM9™,
and ARM11™ devices. Cortex cores are accessed via a DAP (Debug Access
Port) that is part of the new ARM debug paradigm.
Serial
wire debug provides a debug port for packages with limited pins, such as
some microcontrollers, and complex ASICs where pin count negatively
affects device cost. SWD replaces the 5-pin JTAG port with a clock plus
single bi-directional data pin, providing all the normal JTAG debug and
test functionality plus real-time access to system memory without
halting the core or requiring any target resident code, according to
ARM.
Other
key features:
- Enables the debugger to become another AMBA
bus master for access to system memory and peripheral or debug registers
- Offers high performance data rates of up to
640 Kbytes at 8 MHz
- Requires no extra power or ground pins
- Offers a small silicon area at 2.5K
additional gates
This Arium debug solution delivers
reliable run control and ETM (Embedded Trace Macrocell) trace, leading
the industry with a 256 MByte buffer and a blazing 680 MS/s capture
rate. Developers get unsurpassed visibility to and development of code
via a series of intuitive screens and dialogs with numerous viewing and
customization options. Together, Arium’s SourcePoint™ debugger and the
HS-1000S operate in real time with all core frequencies and work with
today's most popular compiler tool chains. The solution supports
industry-standard debug file formats and includes a robust C-like
command language. The HS-1000S can be used to debug any number of
operating systems, including Linux. Overall, Arium debug solutions are
designed to minimize the time and stress associated with the debug phase of
project development, helping companies get to market faster and with
greater ease.
